Hellllllooooooooooooo! Long time no favorites! Listen, we’ve all seen the memes – January was a long-ass month. But you know what, I loved it. Time usually flies by way too quickly, so I’m glad we got the chance to savor a nice long January and everything it had to offer. Alright, let’s go!
Let’s start here, because this was one of my main sources of enjoyment this month. I wrote a whole post about my appreciation for Hayley Kiyoko and her music earlier this month, and I think that post said it all so go ahead and read it. Suffice it to say, I love all of her music, her new single “Curious” brought up a lot of emotions for me, and I am very pumped for her debut album. If you’ve never heard her music, I highly encourage you to give it a listen. You will not regret it.
I’ve always loved the idea of taking a long, relaxing bath. Maybe a little music in the background. Maybe a little reading going on. Maybe just laying back with my eyes closed, enjoying the atmosphere I’ve created. The problem: I do not have a bathtub in my apartment. Luckily, I was still on vacation at my parents’ house at the beginning of the month, and I took complete advantage of their bathtub. All I can say is that a bathtub is definitely on my list of next apartment must-haves.
I am usually not the type to watch award shows, but I watched both the Golden Globes and the Grammy Awards this month, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. Not sure why I haven’t been doing this for my whole life and not sure what changed this year, but I’ve clearly been missing out.
New Year’s Resolutions
I’ve actually been having a lot of fun working on my 2018 resolutions! I never thought I’d say such a sentence, but here we are. I think I might just catch ’em all this year! I mean, it’s only February, but I’m feeling pretty good about it.
On the topic of resolutions, I am already through 1 and 1/3 books! That’s pretty quick progress for me, considering my schedule. The book I completed this month was John Green’s Turtles All The Way Down. I must say, I really enjoyed it. It dealt heavily with the experience of anxiety, and it handled it so beautifully. The descriptions of the main character’s experience were so vivid that they occasionally elevated my own heart rate (as always, thanks for the intel, FitBit). Quick read. Definitely worth it. Though, I’ll warn you, it’s not chock-full of happiness and sunshine. In any way. I mean, it’s not a completely depressing book either. It’s just . . . real life. To me, that makes the book more appealing, but I know we are all looking for different things in our fiction.
So, I live in the Northeast, where it has been snowing up a storm. I had at least 3 snow days in January, not including an additional 2 snow days that resulted in two extra days of vacation. What a delight. I really love it when it snows; it’s beautiful. Equally beautiful is getting time off. It was a win-win.
My friends and I attended the Women’s March last month, and it was incredibly empowering. I am very aware of the fact that marching alone will not change legislation or build us a better world to live in. BUT it’s a start. And it’s important. And it’s so moving to see everyone come together. It was a beautiful experience.
My friends and I followed the Women’s March with the Second City show at one of our local theaters. What a blast. I love to laugh, okay? And I know everyone probably says that. And I know I’ve probably said that before, but it’s true. I don’t think anyone cares about having a good laugh as much as I do. And Second City brought the laughs. It was a great end to an already marvelous day.
I loved memes in 2017, and I still love them in 2018!! Surprise! Anyway, these are a sampling of my favorites from January. There is a larger than usual emphasis on Mom memes because I spent the first week of the month with her and she is a character. Also, she is clearly the inspiration for most memes.
Alright, that’s all for January! Let’s home February goes by just as slowly, amirite? 😉
