Holiday Gift Guide – 2017

‘Tis the season to buy many, many presents! I love exchanging gifts . . . when I feel like I have great gift ideas. Otherwise the gift buying process is extremely anxiety-provoking for me. Anyone with me? Up until this point, I have been the kind of shopper who goes searching for specific products. I haven’t really tended to be great at stumbling upon great products, on sale or not. But this year, I’m making a concerted effort to be a different kind of shopper! I’m searching out deals, planning gift ideas ahead, figuring out what’s “in” now. What is this? Adulthood?? Wild.

I’m planning to make this post a running list of gift ideas that I stumble across throughout the holiday season. These are all products that are on my wish list, on the wish lists of friends and family, or things I think lots of people out there might like. You can click the link or photo associated with each post to get more information on each item and to purchase it. Here’s to hoping you find an idea in here somewhere!

Shoes

Shoes are one of my favorite presents. I don’t know if my tastes are changing as I’m getting older or if shoes are just getting cuter, but I’m finding myself gravitating more and more towards building a shoe collection. I’m noticing the same trend amongst my friends. Maybe keep this in mind if you’re going to be shopping for a millennial this year. All three of the shoes pictured above are from Nordstrom. AND all three are currently on sale. Find the maroon mules here, the grey booties here, and those foxy black booties here. Nordstrom seems to generally be having a boot sale going on right now too, so there are many more options to choose from.

Bath & Body Works Products

No specifics here because you can get almost any body care or house product from Bath & Body Works — candles, body spray, body soap, nourishing lotion with shea butter (!), hand soap. You’ll never feel dirty or dry and flaky again. I suggest you buy everything. I’m not sponsored by Bath & Body Works, but obviously I should be. I almost exclusively use their products for my body care. There is always a sale going on, so be sure to sign up for sale alerts via email after you make your purchase. You will be happy. Your house will smell great. You will smell great. You will be happy. Yes, I said that twice on purpose. All sale coupons that I’ve encountered can be used online or in store. I tend to be an online shopper, but you can easily scan your coupons in store from your cell phone. Easy peasy. Go forth and shop!

Lockable Standing Jewelry Armoire

Okay, I just stumbled across this bad boy yesterday. Who do you think I can convince to get this for me? A full length mirror with ample storage for all of your jewelry?! I literally did not know anything like this existed. This is a perfect gift for someone who needs to see how their whole outfit looks before they leave the house (me) and who also has an obscene amount of jewelry that’s just all over the place because no adequate storage existed before this time (also me). This thing is amazing and it’s on sale.

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

I’m a big fan of books as presents. I’ve chosen this one for the list because it seems like everyone is talking about it, and it’s both interesting and hilarious. It’s sitting right beside me now, actually, because I’m going to read read the next chapter as soon as I’m done with this post. This book is perfect for anyone who likes non-fiction and humor, as well as learning about another culture.

Muse Monthly Subscription Box

Speaking of books, I’ve been eyeing this monthly subscription box for a while now. Each month, you get a new book and a tea to be paired along with it, making this the perfect gift for a literature and/or tea connoisseur. And seasonally appropriate too. What better time of year is there to snuggle up with a good book and some hot tea?! You can even put the subscription on hold if you don’t want a particular month’s book!

Ipsy Subscription Box (Bag?)

Speaking of subscription boxes, I’ve subscribed to Ipsy for a couple of years now. After you subscribe, you take a little quiz so they can determine what your beauty style is. Then you receive monthly make-up bags with full- and travel-sized beauty products based on your style. I get everything from facial sunscreen to nail polish to lipstick. This subscription box was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I swear to you, I haven’t had to purchase make-up since I started receiving Ipsy bags. Plus, now I have all of the cute little bags to put things in. Win-win! Any loved one who like make-up, but doesn’t like to go out and buy it would love to receive an Ipsy subscription.

Wonder Woman DVD

If I’m being honest, I’m still not over this movie. And I’m not sure I ever will be. I was so thrilled to find out that my father had purchased the DVD so that we can all watch the movie while I’m home for Thanksgiving. I think you and everyone you love deserve this kind of joy as well. There are also sooo many Wonder Woman themed gifts out there, from socks to earrings to aprons. You’re bound to find something empowering for all the special ladies in your life.

Kindle Paperwhite

Ah, e-readers. I know there are 85 different opinions on these, but when you read a lot and live in tiny quarters with little storage, you need one. You just can’t have 1,000 books strewn all over your apartment. I’ve been a Nook girl so far, but the glare on the screen when I try to read outside is very troublesome… My Nook is getting old, and while I don’t anticipate it breaking down tomorrow, I do want to have a plan for a replacement in case it does. I’ve been checking out the Kindles lately, and I’ve been digging this one. Seems like it’s light, glare-free, and relatively inexpensive in comparison to other e-readers. It’s also on sale, along with many other Kindle models. This would make the perfect gift for any of your avid reader loved ones.

 Drying Rack

Gone are the days when I feel it’s appropriate to lay clothes all over my apartment to air dry. Ah, adulthood. I think this one is another great gift for a millennial because everyone needs a drying rack, even if they don’t know that yet. I love that this one has “wings.” I feel like that will make it easier to hang clothes, especially those larger, bulkier items. This one is definitely my favorite, but there are (shockingly) tons of other options out there. Check them out, and help a loved one make his/her/their entrance into adulthood.

Travel Tote

The tote. Such an important travel companion for people of all ages. When I travel, I carry nearly everything I can think of in my purse – my Nook, sometimes a paperback book, my laptop, my phone, my wallet, my headphones, all my chargers, a snack, and on and on and on. Just everything. So obviously I need a good, big, sturdy bag to make sure everything makes it from point A to B. I love this one because it’s huge; it comes with a little wristlet that I can put my license, travel documents, and phone in; and it seems pretty darn sturdy. This one’s perfect for all of your loved ones who are ever going to have to travel any distance from their homes in their lives. So pretty much everyone.

Electric Kettle

Another perfect gift for a millennial. I’ve had an electric kettle since I graduate from college, but I’ve become increasingly aware of that fact that not everyone does. How are they making tea? Hot chocolate? Oatmeal? In the microwave? Help to stop this nonsense today.

Fancy Avocado Cutter

Everyone loves avocado. It’s a fact. It’s also a fact that they can be a bitch to open, de-pit, cut, and scoop out. But not if you have this bad boy. My mom gifted me one of these a couple of years ago and it changed my life. Plus it costs less than $10?! I used this tool every day last week, as I tried to eat all my avocados before traveling home for Thanksgiving. This thing will make you and your loved ones want to cut and serve avocados all day. Go ahead, do them a favor and get them this magnificent little tool.

Egg Poacher Pan

Have a loved one that likes to try new, cool things in the kitchen? Or one who already does cool things in the kitchen, but wants to make doing them easier? Look no further. First of all, this is proof that even the most minor technological advancement is amazing. Second of all, I really want to buy this for myself. It’s definitely getting added to my list.

Fitbit

Have a loved one who loves to exercise and wants to track his/her/their workouts? Or one who tries to lose weight and wants to track his/her/their steps and calorie intake? The fitbit is for them. I’ve linked the Fitbit Charge 2 because it’s the one I have, and I absolutely love it. I didn’t initially think I’d like the heart rate monitor that much, but OMG. I track my heart rate through every experience I go through now and it is so interesting. And beyond that kind of fun, I enjoy being able to track my heart rate throughout the course of my workouts. Another feature I enjoy (besides the step tracking) is the sleep tracker. I know it’s not perfectly accurate, but it’s still cool and useful in helping me organize my nights. 11/10, would definitely recommend.

Festive Pajamas

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve become obsessed with procuring festive pajamas for this year and for every year into the future. Sometimes you just want to have Santa, his reindeer, or some festive moose on your bod when you wake up on Christmas Day, you know?! My first stop on the road to accomplishing this goal? Amazon. I’ve picked these ones out, but there are tons of options to choose from.

 ***

Alright that’s it for now. There are some Black Friday deals on these products, so I hope you all can catch some of those! I’ll be updating this post as I find more deals and gift ideas.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
